Day of Practice

Gradual And Sudden
Paths Of Awakening

7-10am PT / 10am-1pm ET / 3-6pm GMT / 4-7pm CET

Is awakening a gradual process, or a sudden realization? Explore the different paths to awakening.

If you are a committed Dharma practitioner then you probably have one of two notions about your practice; 1) you are on a path gradually developing towards awakening, or 2) awakening does not develop; the realization of the Dharma is always, already in the here and now.

But which notion is correct? Is the realization of the Dharma a gradual process that develops through stages of insight? Or, is awakening always, already, present?

Spiritual traditions have been transmitting awakening through one of these two approaches for millennia. Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana Buddhism are full of gradual and sudden path practices.

In this Day Of Practice, you will learn the validity of both of these approaches and directly experience their differences. Join us to gain clarity on the gradual and sudden paths of awakening, and how they manifest in your own practice.

3 Lesson Takeaways:

  • Learn the difference between the gradual and sudden paths of awakening.
  • Learn how the different methodologies lead to different, yet valid spiritual realizations.
  • Gain a practical understanding of how to work with both of these approaches in your own practice towards awakening.

What makes Day of Practice unique?

Our shorter Daily Meditation (60 mins) and Sunday Sangha (90 mins) programs emphasize dharma teachings, while our longer Days of Practice (3 hours) emphasize development of meditation practice.

Daily practice is crucial for watering seeds of mindfulness, but extended periods of deep attention such as these, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, can be uniquely fruitful.
