We have a profound and intrinsic desire to belong. Yet while we search for that deep belonging, it is already in fact our true nature.
We exist in profound kinship and intimacy with the whole of life, yet we miss, ignore and overlook this, creating the unnerving sense of being apart, separate, alone.
We are taught that we belong to various social groups, like our families, religions, and nationalities. Additionally we often seek belonging through forms of tribal affiliation to, for example, sports teams or political groupings. But what does it mean to truly belong?
This Day of Practice with Martin Aylward will explore the essential, powerful notion of belonging. We will explore both our conditioned belonging – the ways we are bound to our karma, our history and our habits, which strongly condition how we feel – and how we respond or react to circumstance. We will inquire into how we belong especially, to our sense of self, our familiar identity.
And we will also point towards what Martin calls True Belonging: that felt, known, lived intimacy with ourselves, with others, with the whole fabric of life.
