Honoring Our Values: Softening the Inner Critic

with Ulla Koenig

7-10 am PDT / 10 am-1 pm EDT / 3-6 pm BST / 4-7 pm CEST

Meet the parts of yourself you'd rather hide – with an open heart

Most of us know that quiet, insistent voice: the one that says you should have done better, or what’s wrong with you?

And most of us meet it in one of two ways: We believe it completely and sink into shame and self-blame – or we push it away, distract ourselves, and try not to feel anything at all.

We long to live from integrity and kindness, yet find ourselves driven or paralysed by this inner voice that judges, belittles, and shames.

In this Day of Practice with insight meditation teacher Ulla Koenig, we will gently learn how we can relate to the parts of ourselves we usually avoid – the impulses, habits, and behaviours that don’t fit our ideal self – and learn to meet them with clarity, honesty, and care.

Together we’ll explore the inner critic as an ethical function that wants us to live by our deepest values, while recognising how its harshness creates suffering and closes the heart. Supported by teachings on non‑self and wise accountability, guided practices, and shared reflection, participants will experiment with new ways of relating to the inner critic that honour our values without self‑loathing.

Day of Practice - Ulla Koenig - Oct 03, 2026

Join this live session with Ulla to discover:

  • A fresh understanding of the inner critic as a value‑driven, but unskilful, ethical function rather than an enemy to be defeated
  • Practical ways to acknowledge harmful behaviours and tendencies without collapsing into shame, guilt, or self‑attack
  • Direct experience of how teachings on non‑self can support honest self‑reflection and accountability that are grounded in

Please note: This Day of Practice can stand alone, but it also serves as a foundation for an in‑depth online course on compassionate ethics and inner transformation, led by Ulla later this month.

What is Day of Practice?

Sangha Live’s 3-hour, LIVE Day of Practice allows for you to drop in deeper, develop your meditation skills, and reset your intentions through sustained sitting.

Days of Practice includes longer periods of meditation, interspersed with wise teachings, an interactive Q&A with our teacher, and more.

Replay access will be available to all registrants within 48 hours of the live session.

How is Day of Practice different from Sangha Live’s Daily/Sunday classes?

Our shorter Daily Meditation (60 mins) and Sunday Sangha (90 mins) programs emphasize dharma teachings, while our longer Days of Practice (3 hours) emphasize development of meditation practice.

Daily practice is crucial for watering seeds of mindfulness, but extended periods of deep attention such as these, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, can be uniquely fruitful.

Cost

Day of Practice is offered on a sliding scale basis, with a suggested rate of $35. We wholeheartedly welcome all to practice with us; no one turned away for lack of funds.
