Embodied Intelligence: Deep Sensing for Emotional Freedom

Live Online Course

October 5th, 2025 - October 26th, 2025

Awaken to the subtle body as teacher and path

The body is not just a vessel, but the ground of awareness itself.

In the Buddha’s teachings, the union of nama (mind) and rupa (material form) is what constitutes full awareness. Each moment of experience arises in the conversation between body and mind.

Long before thoughts arise, the body senses and signals. We experience rich, layered landscapes within – recognizable sensations like muscle tightness or waves of hot and cold, energy and quiet vibrations, often accompanied by visual displays.

This somatic awareness – known as interoception – is recognized as key to emotional intelligence, nervous system regulation, and authentic personal agency in both neuroscience and contemplative traditions. But in our fast-paced, hyper-cognitive world, we often lose touch with this inner compass.

Join somatic mindfulness teacher Jill Satterfield on this grounded, heartfelt journey back to your embodied intelligence. Blending breathwork, visualizations, interoceptive and contemplative practices, Jill offers practical tools to reinhabit your body and the deep wisdom it contains.

Through this process, you’ll learn to decode the body’s language, gently shift patterns of reactivity, and access the freedom to respond – rather than react – with presence and compassion. Whether you are new to somatic practice or seeking to deepen your path, this 4-part series offers a spacious, personal exploration of embodied liberation.

Join this *Live* 4-part series with Jill to learn:

  • Why the body is integral to the Buddhist Path
  • The connection between breath, emotion, and thought
  • Simple techniques to shift from reactivity to presence
  • Practices to reduce overthinking by anchoring awareness in the body
  • Playful, practical ways to imagine your way into a freer body and mind
  • The embodied heart as a boundless resource for resilience
  • The healing power of imagination and visualization
  • How to create your own embodied practice toolkit

Module 1 - Regulating the Nervous System: The Ground of Spacious Awareness

A calm nervous system creates space for insight and choice.

Our opening session introduces foundational practices for settling the body and restoring inner capacity.

Through gentle breathwork and somatic inquiry, we’ll explore the breath not just as a function, but as a barometer of energy and a medicine for the heart-mind.

As we learn to guide the breath with ease and presence, we begin to sense the subtle connection between breath, emotion, and thought – laying the groundwork for deeper awareness and meaningful choice.

Module 2 - Mapping Sensation: Discover Your Unique Somatic Language

Every body speaks a different dialect.

In our second class, we begin to listen more closely – learning to track sensations as the body’s way of communicating inner truths.

We’ll explore how emotions and thoughts arise first as physical impressions, and how tracing these sensations can illuminate patterns, habits, and emotional origins. By anchoring awareness in the body, we create a pathway out of overthinking and into embodied self-understanding.

With Jill as our guide, each of us will be invited to discover our own variation of somatic practice – because the journey to freedom is personal, and never one-size-fits-all.

Module 3 - The Power of Imagination: Rewriting the Inner Script

Imagination isn’t fantasy – it’s the root of intention and possibility, a doorway into new ways of being.

In our third session, we explore how somatic awareness and creative vision can work together to change internal patterns.

Together we’ll reflect on how much of our lived “reality” is shaped by projections of the past, and how consciously rewriting that script can free the body and mind.

Jill will teach us how to use imagination to gently shift emotional and physiological states, and how visualization – when paired with the breath – can support deep healing. Through playful, grounded practices, we’ll begin to envision and embody new possibilities.

Module 4 - The Medicine of Kindness: Soften, Open, Connect

Kindness is a somatic state that changes the body, softens contractions, and invites connection.

In our final class together, we explore how cultivating kindness can soften physical and emotional contractions, open internal space, and deepen our capacity for connection.

Through embodied practices, we’ll discover how a softened body can shift the way we think and feel, and how dissolving internal barriers reveals a spacious, compassionate presence within.

As we learn to sense the body as a container for resilience and care, kindness becomes not just something we offer – but something we are.

About Jill Satterfield

Jill Satterfield

Jill Satterfield has been a quiet pioneer in the integration of embodied awareness practices and Buddhist teachings for over 30 years. Her heart/mind and body approach developed from somatic and contemplative psychology, 35 years of Buddhist study, extensive meditation retreat time and decades of living with chronic pain.

At the invitation of her primary teacher, Ajahn Amaro, Jill was the first to offer mindful movement and somatic practices on silent retreats – first at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, and then at the Insight Meditation Society. She has since developed teacher trainings and mentoring programs that integrate embodied awareness with Dharma ever since.

Jill is a graduate of the Sati Center’s Buddhist Chaplaincy Training, and she was the scholar and teacher in residence at Kripalu Center in 2003. She is also on the faculty for Spirit Rock’s Mindful Yoga and Meditation Training, and her Applied Embodied Mindfulness Trainings is a part of UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center. Jill is currently a mentor for Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach’s Mindfulness Teacher Training. Click here to learn more about Jill Satterfield.
