“There Is Wisdom in Pausing” by Mary Anne Byrne

There comes a point
when the world feels too heavy,
the headlines,
the scrolling,
the quiet ache of trying to keep up
with a world that never stops.
We carry it all
without noticing the weight,
the stories,
the sorrows,
the constant pulse of urgency.
But the body knows
when the heart is full.
It begins to ache for stillness.
Switching off is not indifference.
It is an act of care.
A soft refusal
to be endlessly available
to the steady hum of the world.
It is the slow exhale
after too many held breaths,
the gentle turning inward
to the steadiness of our own pulse.
We are not made to hold it all.
We need to rest.
There is wisdom in pausing,
in letting the world go on for a while
without us.
And in that quiet,
when the light softens,
when the breath deepens,
when the hands finally unclench,
something tender returns.
A remembering.
A small, steady peace.
The knowing
that we are still here,
and that this,
for now,
is enough.

Both create a natural letting go, flow and arising of love, kindness and tenderness.Embodiment offers a broad range of skillful means. We’ll invite these qualities and directly…

  • Daily Meditation Recordings, with Jaya Rudgard – Week of 07 April, 2025

We are delighted to have Jaya Rudgard leading our Daily Meditation sessions this week. May they bring nourishment to your practice.

This week’s theme is: Dharma Here and Now: The Art of Being Present

As meditators we aspire to being awake to life. We know that this life with its gifts, challenges and opportunities, only ever happens NOW, yet this NOW often eludes us. This week we’ll investigate what helps and hinders our fully inhabiting the moments of our day, and what possibilities might emerge when we do so.

Trust in the Goodness of your Practice

Basic goodness is the fundamental ground of your own heart and mind and being. A buoyant heart allows us to face the ‘infinite ocean of suffering’ and stay open-hearted; It is the foundation for living the Bodhisattva vows, it is how we keep on waking up and showing up and growing up, for the benefit…

  • Developing the Power of Heart and Mind

Power matters when free from any corruption of mind, gross or subtle. We need to develop our power rather than feel powerless, indecisive or exploitive. Power emerges from unification of our whole being, focussing on a priority and sometimes engaging in a level of boldness. The Buddha referred to four areas to develop inner power…

Equanimity: Finding Balance in Uncertain Times

Equanimity is a highly-valued quality in Buddhist teachings. But what is it, and how do we cultivate it in our meditation practice? How can we access equanimity in daily life, especially in the midst of uncertainty, fear, and sadness over the suffering in the world? Howard Zinn from “The Optimism of Uncertainty”To be hopeful in…
