Given what society and our own inner critics demand of us, it’s no wonder that when the body falls short of what we think it should be, we blame ourselves – or push through, ignoring what’s real for as long as possible.
Reality will intercept. Whether we’re aging, navigating illness, facing surgery, or simply coming to terms with a body that isn’t what we’d hoped, kindness and honesty matter deeply.
False positivity, forced equanimity, and the unrealistic expectations meditators sometimes carry about how we should think and feel can be genuinely harmful, especially in acute times of need.
This Day of Practice with Jill Satterfield – somatic teacher, movement pioneer, and someone who knows from the inside what it means to navigate a body in difficulty – is an invitation to care for yourself honestly: to acknowledge challenging emotions they’re present; to recognize that goodness co-exists; and to allow the full range of human experience to move through with more ease.
