Kittisaro

Kittisaro

Kittisaro is from Tennessee. He graduated from Princeton as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford before going to Thailand to ordain with Ajahn Chah in 1976. He was a monk for 15 years and helped found Chithurst Monastery and Devon Vihara in the UK. Since disrobing in 1991 he taught internationally in the States, Europe, Africa and Israel. He has also studied and practiced Chan and Pure Land Buddhism for over 30 years informed by the Chinese school of Master Hua. Kittisaro has worked is South Africa for over 20 years founding Dharmagiri Meditation Center and helping found and support various rural development initiatives. He is a core teacher at IMS and affiliated teacher at Spirit Rock. Kittisaro has completed two year-long silent retreats and currently writes in between continuing his teaching engagements.
