Amy Langenberg
Amy Paris Langenberg is Professor of Religious Studies at Eckerd College in St Petersburg, Florida. Her research focuses on South Asian Buddhism with a special focus on gender, sexuality, and women’s monasticism. She uses both historical and ethnographic methodologies in her work.
Amy is the author of Birth in Buddhism: the Suffering Fetus and Female Freedom (2017) as well as multiple journal articles. Her co-written book with Ann Gleig on sexual abuse in Buddhism is forthcoming with Yale University Press. She is also a co-editor for the Bloomsbury Handbook of Contemporary Buddhist Ethics (in process). Her Buddhist practice is primarily devotional, specifically when she visits Buddhist pilgrimage sites in India and Nepal.
